We believe that trends should be analysed in detail. Movements and market developments often are more complex than our first impression.

Will the CD (Compact Disc) be replaced by internet downloads?
A lot of people think that internet will replace a lot traditional media as newspapers or the music CD. In May 2009 the spanish newspaper “El Pais” have been analysing the influence of internet on our life, our habits and the sales of traditional newspapers coming to similar results as we have regarding the sales and life of music CDs. For sure internet changed a lot things and habits but will it let disappear the traditional CD? We believe not only in the music but we believe in the traditional CD, y physical media with its booklet and details to the songs – something we can take in hand, we can give as a gift as we do so often with traditional books. We agree that a simple CD in a carton wallet as we know from cover mounts in newspapers makes no real difference to a download recorded on a MP3 player but also see that the sales of attractive packed “collectors edition” with a detailed song description is growing. Will Blu-Ray replace the DVD?
The sales of Blu-Ray Disc and HD Equipment grew significant in last two years. Allready few monthes after the start of Blu-Ray Discs on the market we heard comments about soon replacement of DVD by Blu-Ray because of the high difference in picture quality and resolution. The christmas sales of Sony´s Play Station 3 would be the dead of DVD according to some voices in the market. Watching the sales statistic of DVD and the fact that the world is facing one of the biggest crisis we had to recognize that we have been right seeing a positive future for the DVD and we have been right beeing scaptical about the exploding sales of BD movies. Untill today the BD sales is similar to the newspapers sales and therefore very different from country to country. The same as “El Pais” had to recognize that the sales of newspapers in countries with less connected homes to internet is very stabil we made the experience that still BD is not significant present in retail stores in countries with lower incomings per family. Regarding the difference in picture quality a lot of consumers had to recognize that there is significant difference in playing back a DVD in a DVD player to a BD in a BD player but that this difference is getting not significant playing back a DVD in a BD Player with HDMI connection. Still no distributor can risk to release a movie just on a Blu-Ray disc and we should not forget that the production and posproduction costs for a BD release are more than 100% higher than for a DVD. On the other hand the difference between a DVD and BD is not significant to the difference between a VHS and a DVD.
